All funds raised during my ride across Australia went to either the Australian or New Zealand Heart Foundation depending on the donor’s wish. It was a thrill to be named Best Individual Fund-raiser for 2011 by the Queensland Branch of the Australian Heart Foundation. Special thanks to EVERYONE who supported my ride.
MY "CREW"
I am VERY lucky to have Pat Williams as my "crew" for this journey.Without someone to fill the many roles that she will - this would not be possible!!
I "fear" the boredom factor for her ............. so have put her in charge of many things!!!!
I have tried to schedule some of our stops in towns where there are Bowling Clubs, so she will be able to keep her eye in for when she returns to Club competition back at Scarborough Bowling Club, Queensland, in May.
We will also carry a couple of golf clubs so she can play the world's longest golf course - the Nullarbor Links!!
I'll be packing Sudoku books and reading books to help her pass the time - but that's only when she has attended to all her "official" unpaid duties for the day!!!!!
This will include (but not be limited to):-
Driving the motor-home
Holding out the collection box for the Heart Foundation at every stop
Providing breakfast for me after the completion of roughly two hours of riding each morning
Providing more energy food for me following my post breakfast couple of riding hours
Finding a nice spot for lunch
Preparing lunch
Getting to our planned nightly stop, and settling in!
Evening meal
Evening drink (that should come before the point immediately above)
Working out food purchasing - supermarkets, in fact shops, will be pretty rare at times!
Fixing punctures
Changing tyres
Maintaining my bike
and the list goes on and on ..............................
In return for Pat's vital role on this adventure - she has been supported by Drakes Pride - and received a brand new set of Drakes Pride International bowls when she was at the Scarborough Sportsmens Club - Bowls Division in Perth so she could "bowl" her way from Scarborough (WA) to Scarborough (Qld).
Very special thanks to Don Sherman of Drakes Pride for his support.
President of the WA Scarborough Sportsmens Club - Bowls Division, Val Swetman, organised a wonderful afternoon and evening at the Club - it was a fantastic way to start the adventure!! Pat and I both loved the evening!
