All funds raised during my ride across Australia went to either the Australian or New Zealand Heart Foundation depending on the donor’s wish.
It was a thrill to be named Best Individual Fund-raiser for 2011 by the Queensland Branch of the Australian Heart Foundation.
Special thanks to EVERYONE who supported my ride.

REST DAY
Day 24 - April 23rd, 2011
BROKEN HILL (New South Wales)
Day 24 - April 23rd, 2011
BROKEN HILL (New South Wales)
YAY - a rest day!!!
Unfortunately a bit of a disaster was discovered late last night. When it came time to lock up the bike - the bike lock was nowhere to be found!! In darkness Jucy was searched, and searched again - nothing!! So an array of bungee cords and velcro straps were used hopefully to secure my bike against any opportunists. I am pleased to report - my bike was untouched over night!!
Another search of Jucy - this time in the daylight - still nothing showed up.
Now, I am not sure if this has been the result of my "crew" person reading "An Ode to Pat" on Facebook and becoming complacent - as it seems that the said bike-lock must have been left at Olary the previous morning!! This could have been done just before I cycled off when Pat made a thorough inspection of my tyres to ensure there were done of these dastardly "thorns" that are present again - protruding from the rubber.
Well - fortunately - there is a Big W here, which was open today - and 2 bike shops (which were not open today) so a new bike lock has been acquired.
Now - if anyone in Olary is reading this and has the lock - please use it - the number for the combination is 6411.
So the "rest day" in Broken Hill consisted of going to the shopping centre (to buy a bike lock), go to the supermarket for more food stocks, and fuelling up the Jucy for the trip ahead. Had hoped that Pat could get to some bowls, but the 2 Clubs we drove past were involved in tournament play. Sadly, she was out of luck.
So we relaxed around the camp - it had a nice swimming pool complex, but it was a shade too cold for outdoor swimming!! I managed to get a fair bit of this website up-to-date which was pleasing. I never seem to have enough time to get it done as thoroughy as I would like.
Photo's - oooops - we don't have many - well - any - for the rest day here - it really was - a total day of rest!!!!
John and Helen - if you can email me a pic at the camping ground - I'll put it on here!!!!
Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling.
